Students at Northern Education Trust Hetton Academy, one of 17 secondary academies sponsored by the trust, have achieved some of their best ever GCSE results.

The academy has shown a strong improvement in the number of passes in English and maths, with an amazing 79% of students overall achieving a pass, demonstrating an improvement of 3% on last year’s results.

There were some outstanding individual successes:

• Jennifer achieved 6 Grade 9s in English Language, English Literature, Maths, Double Award Science and Sport & Fitness.
• Eva achieved 6 Grade 9s in English Language, English Literature, Maths, Double Award Science and Geography.
• James achieved 5 Grade 9s in English Language, English Literature, Double Award Science and History.

Vicky Pinkney, Principal of Hetton Academy, thanked the students and staff for their efforts and commitment, saying: “This is an excellent set of results for Hetton Academy. The students have worked extremely hard to achieve at these levels, with some students having overcome difficult barriers to do so. I’d like to thank the staff for their continued passion for ensuring our students succeed – these results are testament to their energy and enthusiasm for helping our students achieve the very best from their education.”

Andrew Murphy, Senior Executive Principal, added his praise, saying: “Students and staff are to be congratulated for these results, and should be very proud of what they’ve accomplished. They have all worked incredibly hard to achieve at these levels, and the results reflect the dedication and commitment they have shown.”
